About the Role
Join AWS Infrastructure Services as a Cable Installation Technician, where you’ll play a critical role in keeping the cloud running. You will install, terminate, and test fiber and copper cabling in AWS data centers, supporting the stability, security, and scalability of next-generation networks. This role requires technical aptitude, physical stamina, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, and test fiber and copper cabling in accordance with established standards.
- Move and implement enterprise equipment safely within the data center.
- Ensure adherence to safety and security protocols during all installation activities.
- Follow hardware installation procedures and perform break-fix activities.
- Maintain documentation and organize cabling infrastructure for operational efficiency.
- Travel within and outside the regional work area as required.
- Work in various environments, including cramped, elevated, or noisy spaces.
A Day in the Life
A typical day involves installing network cables, managing tools and documentation, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring a clean, organized, and secure cabling environment that meets AWS standards for quality and safety.
Basic Qualifications
- Ability to lift and rack equipment up to 40 lbs.
- 1+ years of data center experience.
- Knowledge of fiber optic and copper cabling standards, testing equipment, and troubleshooting methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry certifications such as BICSI, CompTIA, CCENT, or Network+.
Physical Requirements
- Lift/move up to 40 lbs; participate in group lifts for heavier equipment.
- Work in 24/7 environments; be available for after-hours support.
- Bend, lift, stretch, reach, stand, and walk for 8+ hours.
- Safely ascend/descend ladders, stairs, and gangways.
