Join Walmart Global Tech as a Senior Software Engineer, Backend, to design and develop scalable backend services that power complex digital experiences. The role involves building distributed systems, optimizing performance, ensuring high code quality, and contributing to secure, fault-tolerant architectures.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, frontend, data, and UX to enhance customer journeys while mentoring engineers and advocating engineering best practices.

🔑 Key Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and develop scalable backend services and APIs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver customer-centric solutions.
  • Lead technical initiatives including architecture design, performance tuning, and scalability improvements.
  • Optimize application performance and ensure high-quality code standards.
  • Mentor junior engineers and encourage knowledge sharing.
  • Advocate best practices in service architecture, security, and testing.
  • Build and maintain secure, high-performance, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
  • Develop reusable frameworks and backend integration components.
  • Maintain code quality through automated testing, CI, and code reviews.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues across complex systems.
  • Build reliable systems capable of handling high traffic and large data volumes.
  • Contribute to performance optimization, security enhancements, and system resilience.

🎓 Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related field and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Experience Requirements:

  • 6–9 years total experience, including 5+ years in backend engineering and platform development.
  • 5+ years of experience with Java technologies, distributed systems, and large-scale application development.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year of experience.
  • Experience implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards and knowledge of assistive technologies.
  • Knowledge of digital accessibility best practices aligned with inclusive product standards.
