Join Amazon’s cutting-edge research teams and explore the world of distributed systems and high-performance computing (HPC). As an Applied Science Intern, you will contribute to innovative solutions that power Amazon’s most complex infrastructure, including Annapurna Labs, S3, EC2, and other critical technology platforms.
This internship provides hands-on experience in designing scalable, fault-tolerant systems, optimizing parallel and distributed computing frameworks, and exploring new architectures for data centers and serverless environments.

- Collaborate with senior researchers to design and implement distributed computing solutions
- Design and prototype novel distributed computing architectures to enhance system performance and reliability
- Conduct advanced research on scalable, fault-tolerant systems in data center and serverless environments
- Work within interdisciplinary teams, combining expertise from software engineering, hardware, and data science
- Contribute to publications, technical presentations, and knowledge sharing
💼 Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Enrolled in a PhD program
- 18 years of age or older
- Ability to work 40 hours/week and commit to a 12-week internship
- Willingness to relocate to the internship site
Preferred Qualifications
- Programming experience in Python, Java, C, or C++
- Publications in top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Distributed systems and parallel computing
- High-performance computing (HPC)
- Algorithms and data structures
- Numerical optimization and data mining
- Parsing and computational efficiency
